Best photographer award goes to an American

An American photograph named Spencer Platt won the world press photo of the year award, the jury announced on Friday. The image that has brought all this fame around the world was a distinguished one; the picture shows Lebanese girls very stylish, wearing casually, like in Los Angles streets, driving a modern and expensive car.

 

The weirdest was the fact those Lebanese ladies went for “hanging” the day after the end of the Israeli-Lebanese war of last summer that lasted 31 days and killed about 1300 Lebanese civilians and 150 Israeli ones.

 

The images exactly showed contradiction, a contrast of group of friends, (three girls) against a background of wreckage and a city named Beirut in a total destruction, destroyed by the worst neighbour ever, Israel. One lady was using her mobile phone sending text message to someone, the second lady with a nice tight white shirt and the third with glasses, covering her nose with a handkerchief not to smell corpses and odour of collapsed buildings.

 

The photo won also the category of “daily life singles”, it was taken in august15 the first day of a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, as thousands of Lebanese began returning to their homes.

 

The image was amazing, astonishing and pleasant because it showed the complexity and contradiction of real life, amid the chaos of war, people who just live their life as if nothing was the case it makes us look beyond the obvious.
