Kosovo Serbs dislike UN plan

Kosovska Mitrovica, a northern part of Serbia’s breakaway province of Kosovo witnessed a huge rally of thousands Serbs who are strongly opposed to the United Nations plan, proposed by its envoy Martti Ahtisaari, about the future of the province.

 

Serbian officials considered Ahtisaari’s 'settlement package he exposed in Belgrade and Pristina last Friday to officials, totally unacceptable and meaningless, they rejected any form of independence to the southern province, a province in which Albanians represent a large majority of the population there.

 

The number that was expected in the streets was not exact, organizers declared about 10,000 would demonstrate in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica, but only 3,000 people came to that city which is considered as a bridge that separate the Serbian community from the Albanian one living in the south.

 

Albanians are quiet calm and despite their eager will to have an independent state, they gave up a rally that was normally scheduled for Saturday in Pristina, but still they emphasised on their will for an immediate state without further negotiations.

 The protest fortunately ended peacefully without any one injured, slogans in it showed Belgrade’s autonomy but not independence, it called for the Russian help, Russia that has the veto right in the UN security council, a right that might help a lot…
